Poirier Counselling
Supporting those navigating disruptions in their relationships to food & body —with a belief in the possibility of healing, liberation, and self-trust.
“Children do not arrive here ashamed of their race, gender, age, or disabilities… That is what an unobstructed relationship with our bodies looks like.” - Sonya Renee Taylor
Welcome!
So glad you're here.
I’m a Registered Psychologist and a settler on Treaty 6 territory, the ancestral and traditional lands of the Nêhiyawak (Cree), Niitsítapi (Blackfoot), Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Tsuut’ina, and Métis Nations.

I acknowledge the ongoing and enduring presence, strength, and sovereignty of the Indigenous peoples of this land. I also recognize that colonial systems—including those embedded in healthcare and mental health—continue to cause harm.
As a mental health practitioner, I am committed to the ongoing work of decolonizing my practice, which includes learning from Indigenous worldviews, naming and challenging systemic oppression, and creating space for more relational, accountable, and community-rooted care.
This acknowledgement is not a statement of completion, but a call to responsibility and action.

For over a decade, I've had the privilege to work alongside folks experiencing trauma-related effects and addictions, including eating disorders. I value working with both individuals struggling with trauma/eating disorders and their supporters such as parents, partners, and friends. I believe in helping clients grow and flourish through a client-centered framework that emphasizes empowerment and autonomy. I bring compassion and humour to therapy, and strive to create a space for all to be heard & held.
While I am continually learning and unlearning in a variety of areas, I am particularly passionate about supporting folks navigating eating disorders, body shame, and sexual trauma. I approach this work with the understanding that experiences
of body shame and disordered eating do not occur in a vacuum—they are deeply shaped by systemic forces such as anti-fat bias, white supremacy, capitalism, ableism, and gendered violence. Because of this, I strive to root my practice in a social justice orientation and an intersectional lens that holds space for both personal and collective context.
I started my career as a psychologist at the Sexual Assault Centre
of Edmonton, and have been running support groups with the
Eating Disorder Support Network of Edmonton (EDSNA) since
2016. I also worked at Pine Integrated Health Centre, a
perinatal-focused clinic, for several years.

The therapeutic modalities that inform my practice include Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART, a trauma-based therapy), parts work (Internal Family Systems), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Over this last year, I've expanded my practice services to include Therapy Intensives, and highly ecnourage you to explore the follow section of my webste to learn about the ways this transformational experience can help you unburden, get unstuck, and come home to yourself.
